CBSE Allows Class 10 Students to Pursue Mathematics in Class 11: What You Need to Know

The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has made an important announcement regarding the subject choices for Class 10 students transitioning to Class 11. In response to the challenges posed by the Covid-19 pandemic, CBSE has provided flexibility for students who have studied Mathematics Basic (241) in Class 10.

The relaxation in this rule will continue for the academic session 2024 -25 only, CBSE said.

According to the latest notice issued by CBSE, students who have studied Mathematics Standard (041) in Class 10 can continue with Mathematics (041) in Class 11. However, students who opted for Mathematics Basic (241) in Class 10 will have the option to pursue Applied Mathematics in Class 11.

This decision reflects CBSE’s commitment to accommodating the diverse learning needs of students during these unprecedented times. It acknowledges the disruptions caused by the pandemic and aims to ease the transition for students as they progress to higher classes.

It’s essential to note that this relaxation in subject choices will apply specifically to the academic session 2024–25. Therefore, students who have studied Mathematics Basic (241) will also be eligible to opt for Mathematics (041) in Class 11 during this period.

However, CBSE has emphasized the importance of assessing students’ aptitude and ability before permitting them to pursue Mathematics (041) in Class 11. School authorities are instructed to ensure that students have the necessary skills and readiness for this academic transition.

Additionally, CBSE has reminded schools that once students have selected their subjects during the registration process, no changes will be permitted afterward. This policy aims to streamline the administrative process and maintain consistency in academic planning.

Meanwhile, students eagerly await the announcement of Class 10 and 12 exam results for the 2023 session. Although the exact date for result declaration remains uncertain, CBSE has indicated that results are likely to be announced after May 20. Students are advised to stay updated through the official CBSE website for any announcements regarding result dates and other important information.

As CBSE continues to navigate the educational landscape amidst evolving circumstances, these decisions aim to support students in their academic journey while ensuring fairness and transparency in the assessment process.
